Members of USA Karate of Shoreline, Washington represented their
state and were awarded high honors for outstanding performances at both the Region 12 AAU National Qualifying Karate Championships
on Saturday, May 31st and the World Karate-Do Championships the following day on June 1st.
The two-day event was hosted by The AAU Oregon State Sports
director, Del Saito, in Grants Pass, Oregon.
The national qualifier attracted athletes from Alaska, Oregon,
Idaho, Washington, and California. All participants, ages 5 through 70, competed at the Region 12 National Qualifier for an
opportunity to compete at the AAU Karate Grand Nationals in Winston-Salem, North Carolina or the XXXVII 2003 AAU Junior Olympic
Games in Detroit, Michigan this summer.
The World Karate-Do Championships on June 1st, was attended
by athletes, officials, coaches, and dignitaries from Australia, Israel, Japan, India, Malaysia, Nepal, Puerto Rico, Chile,
Argentina, Venezuela, Canada, England, New Zealand, Berlin, Scotland, North Wales, and the United States, an event to honor
the Governor of Shito-Ryu Karate-do, Soke Kenzo Mabuni from Osaka, Japan.
Following are the results for the Regional National Qualifier.
Trained by Sensei Joni Sharrah and Coached by Alan Sharrah, USA Karate of Shoreline received The Most Outstanding School Award.
The 26 member team earned 61 top finishes. Advanced Jr. Female, Shirin Ebrahimi of Shoreline, was selected as the Most Outstanding
Jr. Female of the Regional National Qualifier.

The 15 member team earned 27 top finishes. In addition, Joni
Sharrah, head instructor and co-owner of USA Karate received the Director’s Award for Outstanding Senior Female Athlete
and the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Overall Competitor.
